55,000 Personnel, sniffer dogs deployed by NSCDC nationwide

Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps on Monday said it had deployed about 55,000 of its personnel nationwide to ensure a hitch-free Christmas and New Year celebrations.

NSCDC spokesman, Mr Emmanuel Okeh, said in Abuja that about 15,500 specially trained sniffer dogs had also been deployed. He also said the dogs would complement the efforts in ensuring law and order during the yuletide season.

We have also taken delivery of about 500 specially trained sniffer dogs from US to complement the 15,000 we have on ground.

5,000 personnel were deployed to some strategic states like Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Lagos and Port Harcourt, while other states would have no fewer than 2,000 personnel.

Strategic places such as churches, recreation spots, federal highways and all forms of gathering places would have security beefed up around them.

Other specialized units such as Special Force, counter-terrorism units and surveillance vehicles will also be deployed.

The NSCDC official urged Nigerians to be vigilant and report any suspicious movement to the security agents.
