Google searches that define 2014

One distinct habit of Google is the public review of searches each year. These are the world beholding moments, news and events.
 2014, the world was stuck by the death of a beloved comedian, unfolds about the horrific plane crash and the world most terrifying virus.

Passing of the comedian and actor Robin Williams shook the world, bringing people online to search for more information and to remember and putting Williams in the number one spot on global trends charts. There was also an uptick in searches related to depression tests and mental health in the days following his death. His iconic roles was revisited, in movies like Aladdin  and Dead Poets Society and found solace in gifs and memes that captured his spirit.


World's Stage
Nothing brings the world together like sports. The biggest sporting events that happens once in four year World Cup in Brazil with the unforgettable moments and had everyone glued to their screen.
The World Cup has the second most Googled topic of the year while Argentina-Netherlands was the most searched match and U.S goalie Tim Howard was the star of the year;s most searched for meme.

Ebola
 Queries about Ebola dominated the search engine in 2014. The disease was one of the most popular overall topics. The number one "What is" search and it also had them most Googled "symptoms".

Malaysia Airline Flight 370
The disappearance of the Malaysian plane put a lot of questions on people's mind. As investigations continue om ground and online, people stayed hopeful for a happy ending despite the dim odds; searches for "MH370 found" outnumbered searches for "MH370 lost."

ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis
This year's awareness for ALS or Lou Gehrig's Disease reached an all-time high around the world due to the viral ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. Celebrities and everyday people braved a bucket of ice cold water for a cause, donations to help find a cure for the illness hit almost $100 million.

Others
On the list are also the following Flappy Bird (highest gaming released in 2014), Conchita Wurst (the man who rose like phoenix), Conflicts and Crisis (one of which is the most popular is the Boko Haram kidnap of 273 Chibok girls in Nigeria which led to the outcry worldwide #BringBackOurGirls. This campaign jumped 200 times after US First Lady Michelle Obama showed her support).
