Channels Television is one of the thirteen (13) independent television stations currently broadcasting in Nigeria. The company was licensed in 1993 and began transmission in 1995 and now broadcasts to a audience of over 20 million people according to the company's profile.
The television station was established in response to Nigerians yearning for a station that will give people the following services other the government or controlled television stations.
1. A television station that will give an alternative medium of communication to the government and its policies and holding public officers accountable to people.
2. Accommodate opposing views.
3. Inform and educate the public on how they are governed as well as what their civic responsibilities are.
4. Uphold the ideals of balanced reporting, objectivity, fairness and the right of individual to communicate.
The bias for news has actually placed them well above others. Their constant strive to be the best news window for Nigerians and the world has always kept them on the chase for projecting the best and quality picture and best television programmes and very informative and educative programmes amongst others. This has placed them to a great height in Nigeria and Africa. Their ever improving attitude has made them bag the award of "Best Television Station of the Year" for over a decade. It became an attitude of bagging the award since year 2000, 2001, 2003, 2004, 2008, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 up till 2014.
Th station has received commendations throughout the country for video footage of events and happenings in Nigeria, which has reportedly been used by other world reputable news broadcasting organisations such as CNN, BBC-TV, ITN and others.
It is the first Nigerian television station to be nominated for international award (International Emmy Award-iEMMY) at the UNICEF Special Award Category. Also rated the most Reliable and Trusted source of information in Nigeria by BBC/REUTERS survey for 2006.
The station gained much influence in the 2015 Presidential Election was became the major source of information for world to see, from Nigerians abroad to the concerned people in The White House in the United State of America.
